Freshly finished brake calipers can make a surprisingly big difference to your Porsche’s appearance. Whether you want to revive the original finish or introduce a little colour, restoring the paint and replacing worn lettering can give the car a cleaner, newer look.
On Porsche models dating back to the 993 generation, the original PORSCHE lettering on the calipers can wear and deteriorate over time. Even when the brakes are mechanically sound, faded lettering and tired paint can spoil the detail behind the wheels.
At VinylSportClassic, our high-temperature-resistant caliper decals are designed to replace that worn lettering. We have tested them on GT2 and GT3 cars subjected to demanding circuit use, with excellent results. They are an ideal finishing touch for a cosmetic caliper restoration.
Choose your look: original or personalised
If your Porsche came with black calipers, refreshing the original black finish or adding a different colour and new logos can noticeably improve its appearance. It is a relatively straightforward cosmetic upgrade when carried out correctly, without changing the braking system itself.
Some owners choose yellow calipers with black lettering to recreate the visual style associated with Porsche’s ceramic brakes. This is purely an aesthetic choice: painting the calipers does not turn the braking system into a carbon-ceramic setup.
Our preference is a more OEM-inspired look: red calipers with white PORSCHE lettering, or a return to the original black finish. The right choice depends on your model, wheel colour and personal taste. If factory accuracy is your priority, check the original specification for your particular car.
Get the lettering size right
Not every Porsche uses the same logo size on both axles. Many models have different lettering dimensions for the front and rear calipers, while others use the same size.
We work with OEM lettering dimensions. On our website, you can select your Porsche model to receive the corresponding sizes. If your car has an upgraded or non-original brake setup, check the caliper dimensions before ordering, as the original model specification may no longer apply.
Prepare, paint and apply the decals
Before starting, have any leaks, damaged seals, serious corrosion or braking problems assessed by a qualified professional. A cosmetic restoration cannot repair a faulty caliper.
- Clean and degrease. With the brakes completely cool, remove brake dust, dirt and grease using a product suitable for the surface. Follow the coating manufacturer’s preparation instructions.
- Prepare the surface. Carefully sand the exterior painted surface as required by the chosen paint system, removing loose paint and smoothing imperfections. Do not sand seals or functional surfaces. Remove all sanding residue.
- Mask and protect. Keep paint and sanding dust away from discs, pads, seals, pistons, bleed screws, threads and hydraulic connections. Caliper removal or work involving brake lines should be handled by a qualified professional.
- Paint. Use a coating specifically intended for brake calipers, applying it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Use a compatible primer if the paint system requires one.
- Allow the paint to cure. Respect the specified drying and curing times before applying the decals. The surface should be clean, dry and ready for adhesive application.
- Apply the lettering. Position the correct front or rear decal, check alignment and apply it following our product instructions.
- Finish with a compatible clear coat. For a sealed finish, apply a suitable high-temperature clear coat only if it is confirmed compatible with both the paint and our decals. Follow the specified application and curing times before using the car.
The finishing detail matters
A clean paint finish and correctly sized PORSCHE lettering can bring tired-looking calipers back to life. Whether you choose original black, red with white logos or a personalised colour combination, careful preparation makes the difference.
